July 13 – Lake County Corn Dogs vs Elkhart County Miracle
Nappanee – The Elkhart County Miracle defeated the Lake County Corn Dogs in dramatic fashion on Thursday. After trailing by as many as six, the Miracle stormed back to win 14-9.
Things didn’t start well for the Miracle. The Corn Dogs plated six in the second inning and looked to run away with it early.
The Miracle stayed in it, getting three back in the bottom of the third. After the rough start, Nathaniel Garcia found a groove on the mound for the Miracle. In innings 3-5, Garcia allowed just two hits.
The Miracle made it a ball game in the fifth with a combination of hits and wild pitches from the Corn Dogs. Kameron Salazar lead off the inning with a triple, followed by back-to-back singles from Cole Mason and Dawson Willis. Bryce Lesher and Bryce Miller both drove in a run and tied things up at six.
The tie game didn’t last long. The Corn Dogs took the lead right back on a three-run home run from Ranko Stevonovic.
Elkhart County had more tricks up their sleeve in the bottom of the sixth. With help from the Corn Dogs, who threw four wild pitches in the inning, the Miracle brought in six runs. The inning was highlighted by a 2-RBI single by newcomer Kayden Cain.
The bullpen slammed the door the rest of the way. Ethan Lengfelder threw two scoreless innings, and Hunter Christunas fired a scoreless ninth to bring home the win.
Dawson Willis finished the day 4-4 and scored four times. Jaun Penueles hit three doubles and drove in a run.
“Anything can happen,” manager Wilson Valera said. “We hit the ball well, and we scored runs. Hopefully, we continue to play with this kind of energy.”
