Elkhart County Miracle Win Season Opener for Second Consecutive Year

Northern League baseball franchise edge Vikings in 3-2 thriller

HAMMOND, INDIANA—The 2024 Elkhart County Miracle accomplished the same thing it did last year to begin the year.  It won its season opener.

The Miracle collected eight hits last night, had 16 strikeouts, and committed no errors in the 3-2 win over the Southland Vikings in Hammond.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings.  Elkhart County’s All Star centerfielder Jaden Miller (NorthWood/Indiana Tech), Steven Hernandez (Grace College), and second-year catcher Juan Pinuelas all finished with two hits each.  Former St. Joseph High product Nathaniel Garcia came through with a late-inning clutch hit and had two RBI.

Miracle starting pitcher Cristopher Gonzalez (Tampa Bay Rays organization) notched the win with eight strikeouts in five innings.  Reliever Julio Garcia (Miami Marlins organization) added four strikeouts in two innings.

Elkhart County is scheduled to resume play Tuesday night in Griffith in a contest against the Generals.
