July 1 – Southland Vikings vs Elkhart County Miracle

Nappanee – The Miracle comeback attempt fell short on Saturday against the Southland Vikings. The Miracle fell by a score of 5-3.

It was a scoreless affair through the first two innings. The Vikings struck first getting three runs in the third. They added two more runs in the fourth and led 5-0.

The Miracle couldn’t get anything going with runners in scoring position. At the end of five innings, the Miracle had already stranded seven base runners.

After their runs in the fourth, the Vikings didn’t have a base runner for the rest of the game. Robino Vazquez-Vallejo retired the final 15 he faced and threw a complete game. Vazquez-Vallejo’s final line was 9.0 IP, 4 ER, and 6 SO.

The Miracle finally broke through in the fifth, plating one. After adding two more in the sixth, it began to look like a ball game.

That would be all for the scoring in the game, however, as the Miracle stranded another four through the final four innings.

Dawson Willis added another hit, moving his streak to nine games in a row. Northwood grad Jaden Miller doubled and reached on a walk.

Miracle manager Wilson Valera said leaving men on base was the problem for the Miracle.

“It didn’t come out the way we wanted,” Valera said. “We gave up too many hits, too many walks, and we left men in scoring position.”

The Miracle will play two tomorrow against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. Game one will begin at 2:00 PM ET. Fans can attend both games with a single ticket!
